N5 Mobile curtain system of Bund International Financial Center

Shangha Bund Financial Center ( The Bund Finance Center- Fosun Foundation ) is located in the center of the North Bund and South Bund in Shanghai, and was designed by renowned British designers Thomas Heatherwick and Foster+Partner. The N5 mobile curtain system is located at the center of the Bund Financial Center, simulating the curtains hanging from the hats of ancient Chinese emperors. It has three layers of varying lengths, and each layer can rotate around the entire building independently. After completion, it became a landmark of this plot, reinterpreting the Bund. This project is positioned as a cultural and performing arts center, with the entire building located at the core of the project, at a relatively low height(about 28 meters), surrounded by gradually rising building clusters from near to far. This adds a strong visual effect to the building and the entire Bund Center.

The N5 mobile curtain of the Bund Financial Center features three layers of aluminum tubes with varying diameters and external decorations suspended outside the building, forming a * like curve. These tubes can rotate at different speeds in both directions under the drive of a driving device. When the length of the three-layer tassel is evenly distributed it is isolated from the inside and outside. When the short tube of the three-layer tassel face in a certain direction, it opens inside and outside in that direction, which can be called a “breathable curtain”.

Technical Difficulties:

Large scale variable pitch pin tooth transmission

Design, manufacture and installation of high-precision closed-loop curved tracks with long circumferences

Connection technology between large-diameter thin-walled aluminum alloy pipes and threaded joints

Connection technology between high-precision mechanical structure and large building structures
